Year 1

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What an interesting second term that was! With remote learning and new technology came plenty of challenges, but out of the many challenges came great success!

Year one students are to be commended for their attendance and effort during remote learning lessons on Zoom. A special thank you to all the parents for supporting students during this time.

Our English focus in term two was explanation texts, and we spent some time refining how we write a recount. We revised our comprehension skills through sequencing and questioning. Students practiced the use of nouns, pronouns and adjectives to improve their sentences. We have continued to work on punctuation, focussing on a variety of sentence endings and the use of capital letters.

In mathematics, we revised number skills such as counting on, counting back and partitioning. We attempted to find fractions of a whole and represented this in shapes and with numerals. In measurement, students investigated length and area. In our location and transformation unit, students learnt about position and directions.

During integrated studies this term, students investigated geography where they learnt about natural, constructed and managed environments. We studied map-reading skills and made a landscape diorama which children presented at school.

A big thank you and congratulations to all the year ones who submitted their MyEd tasks by the due date. We look forward to an exciting term three.

Have a safe and restful term break!
